Introduction

Today, we'll carry on exploring the Hoenn Pokédex. More particularly, we'll see Jirachi, a mythic, Metal/Psychic Pokémon. It first appeared in the Ruby & Sapphire block.

This Pokémon hibernates for 1,000 years and, for 7 days (when it is awake), as the legend says, it can grant three wishes.

This concept shows up in other Pokémon media, though in different ways. The most popular version of it was in Wish Maker, the sixth movie in the long Pokémon franchise (considering the anime timeline). In it, the Millennium Comet is associated with Jirachi's "third eye", in its belly. It is said this eye can capture the energy of the comet.

Take a look at the Japanese trailer:

And now the American trailer:

There are multiple versions of this story in the manga. The legend surrounding the wishes varies considerably throughout the story. Jirachi is, many times, underestimated in the Pokémon lore.

In this article, we'll see the best Jirachi ever printed, from its "baby" versions to the strongest, "ultra rare" versions.

Top 10 Best Jirachi of All Time

10 - Jirachi (Ruby/Sapphire: Hidden Legends)

In the Ruby & Sapphire era, this card was essential, as it lets you evolve your Pokémon faster thanks to its attack, Make a Wish.

You can use it in the U150 and Palace formats.

9 - Jirachi (X/Y: Promo Cards)

In X & Y, this card stood out because of its attack, Stardust, which lets you remove a special energy from the opponent's active Pokémon. In the following turn, Jirachi can't be affected by damage or effects by this enemy Pokémon, so it is a sort of "shield".

You can use it in the Expanded format.

8 - Jirachi (X/Y: Roaring Skies)

This card has two excellent attacks:

The first one, Diminutive Desire, lets you look at the top 7 cards in your deck and add one to your hand.

The second, Doom Desire, forces you to discard all energies attached to Jirachi. After that, at the end of the opponent's turn, the opponent's active Pokémon will be Knocked Out.

You can use it in the Expanded format.

7 - Shining Jirachi (Sun/Moon: Shining Legends)

Its main attack states, "if the opponent's active Pokémon is an evolved Pokémon, it can't attack Shining Jirachi", so it's a powerful blocker. Particularly against decks that focus on stage 1 and 2 evolutions.

You can use it in the Expanded format.

6 - Jirachi "Amazing Rare" (Sword/Shield: Vivid Voltage)

This card was a bit popular in Standard from 2020 to 2022 because of its ability, Dreamy Revelation.

With it, you can look at the top two cards in your deck, add one to your hand, and return one to the top, as long as Jirachi is in the active spot.

In Standard, we'd play it with Oranguru SSH 148. This way, you could manipulate the top cards in your deck and make your strategies even stronger. In Expanded, we'd still use this combo, but with Magcargo CES 24 as well.

5 - Jirachi "Prism Star" (Sun/Moon: Celestial Storm)

This card stands out because of its ability, Wish Upon a Star, which states, "if you took this Pokémon as a face-down Prize card during your turn and your Bench isn't full, before you put it into your hand, you may put it onto your Bench and take 1 more Prize card."

Basically, this is a "rogue" Pokémon we used to draw more Prize cards. It saw some play in Sun & Moon's Standard format with Mr. Mime DET 11. Mr. Mime's ability, Phantomine, lets you manipulate your Prize cards, so you could use it to find Jirachi ◇ CES 97 again and again.

In Expanded, we optimized this combo with Hisuian Heavy Ball ASR 146, which lets you get a basic Pokémon from your Prize cards, and Arc Phone LOR 152, which reveals the top card in your deck and lets you swap it.

You can use it in the Expanded format.

4 - Radiant Jirachi (Sword/Shield: Silver Tempest)

This Jirachi, from the last Sword & Shield set, stands out because of its ability, Entrusted Wishes, which lets you get three cards from your deck if it is Knocked Out by the opponent.

Its attack, Astral Misfortune, is fascinating: if you hit two "heads", you'll Knock Out the enemy Pokémon. You can use it to destroy TAG TEAM-GX, VUnion, VMax, and, in the future, Mega ex, which will give you three Prize cards.

3 - Jirachi (Sun/Moon: Team Up)

Our third place is one of the best "baby" Pokémon ever printed. It is this Jirachi, from Sun & Moon's Team Up set.

It was the cornerstone of Standard at the time thanks to its ability, Stellar Wish: during your turn (before attacking), you can look at the top 5 cards in your deck, get a Trainer there and add it to your hand. Then, Jirachi is Asleep.

But here's the trick: with Escape Board UPR 122, which lets you retreat Paralyzed or Asleep Pokémon for free, you could easily play around this drawback.

This card was inspired by Jirachi DX 9, from the Ruby & Sapphire era. This Jirachi lets you look at the top 5 cards in your deck and get one from there, but back then we didn't have as efficient "retreat" tool as the ones in the Sun & Moon block.

2 - Jirachi-EX (Black/White: Plasma Blast)

This card is extremely strong because of its ability, Stellar Guidance, which lets you get a Supporter from your deck when you play Jirachi-EX from your hand to the bench. It is the same effect Tapu Lele-GX GRI 60 and Lumineon V BRS 40, from the first 2025 Standard format, had.

The best way to use it was with Scoop Up Net RCL 165, which lets you recycle Pokémon (except for GX and V) from the board to your hand. As Jirachi-EX isn't a GX or V Pokémon, you could play this combo as many times as you wanted.

And that's how Scoop Up Net RCL 165 was banned. We even covered it at the time.link outside website

If the Pokémon Company never banned it, this Jirachi-EX would definitely occupy our first place!

1 - Jirachi-GX (Sun/Moon: Unified Minds)

Our first place is Jirachi-GX, which played a critical role supporting Mewtwo & Mew-GX UNM 71, particularly in Standard mirror matches at the time because of its ability, Psychic Zone.

This ability made all Psychic Pokémon in play have no abilities, including the opponent's. It changed how matches played out, as it made brute damage more important than exploring weaknesses. That's why it was so popular.

Honorable Mentions

Jirachi (Scarlet/Violet: Paradox Rift)
