In the semifinals, Javier faced his direct competitor for the title of Player of the Year, the American Seth Manfield (Golgari Ramp) in a balanced match, where he won by 3-2 after using two copies of Jace, the Perfected Mind to mill 30 cards from your opponent's deck, leaving him with just one card on top and no way to win the game in a single turn.
Dominguez faced the Portuguese Marcio Carvalho (Golgari Midrange) in the finals. The games had a clear advantage for him during all matches, with Javier being crowned champion after Archfiend of the Dross triggered Unholy Annex // Ritual Chamber for lethal damage.

Javier was also the Magic: The Gathering world champion in 2018, where he defeated Grzegorz Kowalski in the finals with Mono Red Aggro. Dominguez was immortalized on the card Fervent Champion for his victory.
